A Charmed Life

My Friend Jack

I've always regarded the That'll Be The Day / Stardust films as the best "rock" movies I've ever seen - yes, even better that Slade in Flame - and they are among my most-watched films ever. It was really my interest in those films that persuaded me to read A Charmed Life, which my wife had read sometime last year. Somewhat to my surprise, I've found it an interesting and entertaining, if light, read. There a few areas that either get glossed over or totally ignored, but I guess everyone is entitled to keep a few bits back when telling their life story - I know I will! I particularly enjoyed the parts that centred around his time in Godspell and the two "Jim Maclaine" movies, and I laughed out loud at the tale regarding "Mutiny" and the actor who passed wind during a burial at sea scene.

A pleasant, inoffensive tale of life in the entertainment world in the last third of the 20th century.
