I recently was challenged on social media to post my top ten favourite albums of all time and it was much harder than I thought and it got me thinking that my album selection didn't bear any resemblance to some of the songs on my playlist, and in turn that got me thinking about this post and I decided to revisit it, as I came to a conclusion that I did have a favourite song of all time, it was a song which I have always loved and which over the years I have acquired numerous covers of and love every single one.

That song is 'House of the Rising Sun' originally an old American folk song also known as Rising Sun Blues and I have covers by Bob Dylan (which I think is my favourite out of all the covers I have and which is sung from a female point of view as the lyrics are closer to the original folk song), other covers of the song I have are by Geordie, Joan Baez, Frijid Pink, Krokus, Sinead O Connor, Nina Simone, Five Finger Death Punch and of course The Animals, which is the best known version. (All these covers are on youtube).

Bob Dylan version: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_o3s238szZk

Joan Baez version: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rD80eZ6Gxz0

Nina Simone version: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aCuu5fOEB3Y

Sinead O Connor version: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XUIsFUfxgqw

Geordie version: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rPab0qMd-V4

Krokus version: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eDnldWUup_I

Frijid Pink version: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=US9lRkeW-m0

Five Finger Death Punch version: (although the actual song doesn't begin until about 1:47 into the video) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sXYIxJScSik

The Animals version: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5A-4VGfx5lU

The earliest recorded version out there is by Leadbelly and I have tried repeatedly to find a copy of it I thought I had succeeded on youtube but it turned out to be a female singing it and not Leadbelly as stated.

I noticed that the thread has also moved on to Christmas songs, now I hate Christmas with a passion so a lot of the songs I consider favourites for this time of the season are more anti christmas songs and as such can be a bit offensive but this one is my favourite 'mainstream' Christmas song

The Five Finger Death Punch version is fun.

Here's the Lead Belly 1944 version, Apple.  It's called "In New Orleans" which is why you couldn't find it.

Right now, I cant stop listening to Edge of Seventeen by Fleetwood Mac.

Now that both my boys are grown and into proper music I get to hear the following songs A LOT-

Five Finger Death Punch - Jekyll and Hyde

Mushroomhead - Qwerty

ACDC - All Night Long

Childish Gambino - This is America

U2 - Where the Strees Have No Name

All pretty good, so I am not complaining too much.
