50 best crime - anyone read John Dickson Carr

Recommended Posts

If he is the author that wrote The Hollow Man, then yes, I read about half and hated the style of writing so stopped.

I do - was he very old school? I quite like G K Chesterton and John Bucanan style writing but he's earlier than John I think
Apparently, he was influenced by Chesterton, and, the reason I tried The Hollow Man, he is accredited with the greatest locked-room mystery story. But I didn't like his writing style at all.

I'm just over half way through the Hollow Man and I sometimes get confused with who is speaking but I think it's deliberately styled to stop you working it out.

I have yet to understand the point of the Rumpole character who introduced Handley and Fell to the case but since then is occassionally mentioned to just remind you he's still there.
