The Times: The 50 Greatest Crime Writers

Conan Doyle, McDermid, Walters, Hill and Rankin are the only one's who I have ever read so I can't comment on the others, but those one's certainly deserve to be there.

 

I can't understand how Peter James, Robert Goddard, and some other's who aren't springing to mind right now, didn't make it!

Here's the preamble.

does anyone know how they come up with these lists? is it based on how much time the book has spent on best-seller lists, or how many copies it's sold etc?
