Recommended Posts

Meg, you're welcome

Clavain and iff I used the link and it took me to my signature page, no problem

Sorry, I don't have any other suggestions!

I have posted a message about your signature problem in the Moderators forum Clavain, as this thread might have been missed. I hope one of the more knowlegable mods comes along soon who can sort it for you - and fix a couple of things I don't seem to be able to find any more.:dunce:

I've fixed it for you Clavain,

I think a maintenance release (IPS Community Suite 4.2.4) changed the default settings for the Members group.

I've changed that.  But is has highlighted that we might want to look at our different user classes.

On logging on today I noticed the address bar said Site Not Secure. I don't remember seeing that before. Have I just missed it? or has something changed? Can we make it secure?

i think it had came up like that for me a while ago

it could be first time for you depending on if you updated your internet browser as that was when it first came up for me.

the big difference between a website being secure or not secure is secure the website address is https and unsecure the site address is http, an https address would be more secure.

I've just tried and it looks like we have a https address that works - although the ad banners aren't secure.

It might be worth us looking into only using the https versions - that is the preferred option for most sites now.

i find if i type https:// at the start of the address but when i click say 21st century fiction, then it reverts to the http

testing on another site which is secure, the images there would not be secure so i think it is difficult as the ad banner and any images are hosted off bgo

there is an add on i believe that people can add on that secures websites but with the add on, the sites lose a degree of functionality

Thanks iff & Tag, it's strange that when I type it with https etc it comes up secure but as iff says when you click onto something else it says not secure.

Is this something our IT people can resolve?

Thanks to the mods for helping with recent issues. We have just had an update to the site and it does change things. I will check if members have restricted functions because of this.

Am I the only one having trouble with our Amazon link?

The Amazon.co.uk  banner is currently not appearing at the top of the page - I first noticed this a couple of weeks ago and started a new thread about it, but as soon as I posted the thread the banner reappeared, so I deleted the thread. I have pootled about the forum for a while this afternoon hoping it would return, but it has not done so yet.

I have the BGO?Amazon address bookmarked, so I am hoping my purchases through that will still be credited to BGO.

The Amazon.com banner at the bottom is still there, and that accesses a button to get to Amazon.co.uk - but is that to the BGO link, and will BGO still get the commission in the UK, or in the US?

I had trouble logging on,  said it was the site didn't have the necessary bandwidth. Seems ok now.

I emailed Stuart about the bandwidth problem, and that has been fixed.

The Amazon link is probably a different problem altogether, and I still don't have it.

I know I haven't been here for ages, but I'm always using the Amazon banner .co.uk for all purchases there, ;but today it is not to be seen - only the .com banner at the bottom of the page.  Have we lost Amazon.co.uk on here for ever?  Or, like the comments above, is it likely to come back again in due course?

Oops!  I should be more patient.  After 5 minutes the .co.uk banner has appeared.  Sorry to be a nuisance.
