BGO Crime Book Quiz

Recommended Posts

I'd better preface this with Bill's guidelines (OK rules):

Someone volunteers to set the quiz questions, which can be a mix or themed. The rule is that you can only answer one question at a time and must wait for another member to post an answer before you can answer another question. (Otherwise one person could answer them all and ruin it for everyone.) Whoever sets the quiz must be prepared to come back regularly and say whether answers are correct or not. Also, they should update the questions every now and then, with the answers in place.

Here goes:

1. How many whacks did Olive Martin deliver?

2. Whose short-lived partner was Archer?

3. Archie did the legwork for whom?

4. What make of car did Morse drive?

5. Who drives a car called Armstrong, and has cat called Springsteen?

6. Who invited Kenzie to have a drink before the war?

7. For which family member did Bonasera seek justice?

8. Which reporting duo investigated the death of Thurmond Call?

9. Kurt Wallander polices which country?

10. A is for Alibi, but what are B and C?

11. Who was Tennyson's prime suspect?

12. Where does Mrs Raisin live?

13. When not sleuthing, how does Charles Paris earn a living?

14. Who investigated the murders in the Rue Morgue?

15. Who wrote Rache in blood on a wall?

16. Who has a lesbian niece called Lucy?

17. Who played baccarat at Deauville?

18. Which bar does Nick Stefanos tend?

19. Who listens to jazz in Nottingham?

20. Who stole the Empress of Blandings?

21. Which crooked mayor ruled the Twenty-seventh city?

22. Which flowers didn't Miss Blandish get?

23. Which city houses the 87th Precinct?

24. One for the money, but how many big ones are there?

25. Who's the only Jewish Cowboy detective in the village?

26. In what year did the housesitters meet the coypu man?

27. Who got away with it by feeding the leg of lamb to the police?

28. Ponsonby ruined whose perfectly good hangover by turning up dead?

29. How did Mma Ramotswe's employee help men with their guilty secret?

30. Who wrote The Singing Detective?

It may be GMT where you are, but the water goes down the plughole the other way here, so bear with me if I take a while to confirm answers. I can PM the answers to someone if that will speed things up.

This looks really excellent!!

There are several that I nearly know the answers to - but none I can actually answer without going away to check. I'll be back!

Claire, you've started us off with the only trick question! You could say it was Christopher Marlowe (the character within the book The Singing Detective that writes a screenplay based on a book he wrote called...) but you're right.

Yes, and even worse the author changed later books to reflect the TV adaptation with no explanation. He simply drove a Jaguar as if he always had.

20. Who stole the Empress of Blandings?

I think this is the only one of the 30 that I have read - and I can't remember the answer! Was it the butler?

27. Who got away with it by feeding the leg of lamb to the police?

Sounds a lot like a story from Roald Dahl's "Tales of the Unexpected" but how on Earth we're meant to know the name of the culprit I have no idea!!!

16. Correct

18. Correct

25. Correct

20. I should have rechecked the answer to this too! Sorry, have to get back unless someone can confirm.

13. Correct

27. Again, you're right it was Tale of the Unexepcted and you can have it as Correct for knowing it (ie, without looking it up, I can't remember either).

14. Correct

1. Correct. You have it for knowing that she was acquitted

I think Meg should have the Jaguar one as she's right that he did drive one. I was looking for Lancia which he drove in the earlier editions.

Good work :)

Some of my questions might be a little obscure. I'll give clues if they don't get answered.

edited to add answer to question 1
