Is Smashwords the best way to publish ebooks?

Hi, I'm looking for a bit of advice or enlightenment please.
A question to any authors - have you any experience with smashwords? It seems too good to be true - to access so many patforms through one site, and all free. There's no mention of ISBN or any of the obstacles I see through other avenues. Any reasons it's not as good as it sounds????

I've recently published my first novel with them. They give you an ISBN number for free to use via their company. I'm currently awaiting for my book to be approved for the premium catalog, in the meantime, it is still available for download from their website. Make sure you download the free Smashwords formatting guide. It's simple to use and helps to pass your book for approval.

I've used Smashwords and Lulu. I haven't had a problem with either of them. But uploading on Amazon Kindle seems to be the way to go now.
