A small tear in the eye and a rousing cheer from the rooftops in a bittersweet post.

Old hands at BGO will remember the good old days when My Friend Jack was here there and everywhere, helping build the board into the place it is today. Sadly, life has simply got in the way in recent years and he's not been able to be around as much as he would want - not as a member or moderator.

Consequenly, he felt it was time to hang up his modding hat and steer his horse towards the glowing clouds on the horizon.

I want to pay tribute to everything MFJ has done on BGO over the years. He's been an inspirational presence and a pleasure to have on the Mod Squad. It's to his credit that he wanted to make way for someone who could be here more often to look after the site - especially in light of the recent spam attacks.

He'll still be around to contribute, of course, and his new title will be 'Emeritus Moderator' in honour of his work.

Thanks, MFJ! In the best footballing tradition, "It's been emotional!"

As every door closes...

It's my great pleasure to welcome tagesmann to the moderating team!

He has done some sterling work with reviving the Group Read and has been a long-standing, valuable member of BGO. His good sense, balance and diplomacy will be a strong addition to the team and I know he will help BGO move from strength to strength.

I'm very pleased he has accepted this post and look forward to working with him.

Bittersweet morning indeed! It's not a goodbye to MFJ of course, it has been wonderful having you on the team fighting the dark clouds of evil. And welcome to Tagesmann, great to have you on board.

Well, really, what could possibly be more important in life than books and assorted associated trivia!?

Seriously, it is always a shame when life impinges on fun and I for one appreciate the contribution MFJ has made to BGO down the years. At the same time, I'm glad there's still someone who can tell me off the top of his head what was at number 23 in the UK singles chart on the 14th September 1975.

It'll be nice to no longer be the newbie on Team Mod and I'd like to extend a hearty welcome to Tagesmann as he girds his loins for our ongoing battle against spam.

I'll just add my thanks to MFJ for all his work and hope Tagesmann enjoys his time as a Mod.

I'd also like to thank (again) all the Mods for all the work they do, without their hard work our collective enjoyment of BGO would be greatly reduced.

I would also like to say thanks to MFJ. And to thank him for the welcome message he left on the mods forum. I was a bit surprised to be offered the post (I had volunteered for a limited role looking after the Book Group section) and very flattered. Hopefully I wont make too many mistakes as the apprentice mod.

If I knew how to , my loins would be well and truly girded, Gram.

I too would like to add my thanks to MFJ for all your work over the years. I love your new title by the way ;)

And welcome to the role of Moderator tagesmann. I can only imagine the amount of work involved but thank you and all the Mods for the wonderful work all of you do keeping this site the wonderful place that it is. Good luck and thank you for taking on the task.

It's very sad I know, but I just realised my name is now listed as as mod down that left side of the page against each forum. :)

Thank you for your kind comments. It feels a bit like being able to read my own obituary! :)

Anyway, I don't think you'll see any less of me than you have for the last couple of years, and I will certainly continue to use BGO's Amazon links throughout the year.

I'm glad there's still someone who can tell me off the top of his head what was at number 23 in the UK singles chart on the 14th September 1975.

It was Dolly My Love by the Moments.
