I was browsing this area of the site and found it interesting/puzzling that there is nothing on Richard Dawkins... Has anyone read any of his books ? It doesn't necessarily have to be The Selfish Gene. I'd love to talk about this author - for people who are curious about Biology, Darwin, genetics and evolution in general, I would say he is a must. Great insights into human nature from a scientific point of view.
Looking forward to replies !

I was something of a Dawkins fan - a few years ago, when God was taking a pretty severe bashing from all directions. I read The Selfish Gene first and bought a couple of other Dawkins books, but then realised I was not a scientist and got bogged down by all the diagrams. Fiction lasts longer in the mind for me than science or philosophy, which, after the first excitement, is too much like hard work.

Hi nonsuch,
I know what you mean by hard work and I do agree with you. But what I've mentioned about insights into human nature still holds true for me, though. I often find myself analysing my own unexplainable attitudes taking his ideas into account - especially what he puts forwards in The selfish gene - and then the "crazy" things don't seem so crazy after all. I wouldn't say this is the kind of book for you to remember. In my opinion, the purpose is to truly grasp some of the concepts and thus be able to understand yourself and others better. It's almost like self-help, in a strange way.
