Have just found my mobile phone lying in the bottom of the washing machine. Great.

Has anyone else had the same experience? Please help me!!!!!!

Not had that problem, but try :

Dismantle it

Dry it carefully (NO DIRECT HEAT !)

Re-assemble it

PRAY

Test it

Replace it.

Good Luck

my friend dropped hers in the toilet once. it wasn't a very nice toilet, but she was drunk and fished it out anyway! that HAS to be worse!!! it DID work afterwards having used a similar method to Obskua's, although it was very temperamental....as you would be if you'd just been carelessly dropped in a yukky toilet!! :p

on the very keyboard I'm typing on now, and it survived! We put it near, but not on a keyboard, after drying off what we could... Boy, was I popular that day!

A friend of mine also dropped her mobile in a huge deep oily puddle on stumbling out of a taxi on a night out, it was OK after drying out too.

I dropped a library book in the bath once too!! But not drunk that time. I can't remember what it was. I do remember getting a FILTHY look on taking it back though!

I like the idea of a mobile that doubles as a washing machine, yes...

Our (then) 18-month old son discovered that it was fun to drop my wife's dictionary into our fish tank. In the subsequent 2 years, the dictionary (which after drying out became 2 inches ticker than it had previously been) has fallen into several slim volumes - but my wife insists on keeping it!

Not much help with the mobile question, but I just felt the need to share this with you.

I spilled tea over my keyboard at work once and the TechSupport guy just asked if I took sugar. Apparently if plain tea is spilled the keyboard will work again but sugar does something to the circuits. So working on the same principle, was the mobile in plain water or was there soap powder involved? Of course he could have been pulling my leg...this is the same guy who had me convinced that the components of a mouse were called Mickeys and Minnies. (sorry)

No, it's true - anything with sugar in ruins electronics. The very best way of all to ensure total non-operative conditions in electronic communications equipment is to pour treacle into it - and of course treacle is bio-degradeable.

So how does the story end, Harriet? Did the phone recover???

Phone is unfortunately still dead :( My SIM card survived though, so I'm just using another handset for the time being.

Now try 'phoning yourself to see if you're in. If it's engaged, then there's definitely a problem.

My telephone isn't mobile. It is firmly attached to the breakfast-room wall, with a lead that isn't long enough to reach the washing machine out in the cloakroom.

This means that I am unable to conduct the experiments necessary to test the effects of 30/40/60/degree washes, or the use of bio and non-bio powder, and long or short spin.
Any volunteers?

No but i can report that ds games work when dried out and so did an i-pod nano washed at 40. After about 3 months that is and the earphones were trashed. :(

I can report that the predecessor to the Samsung YPU3JQB MP3 player doesn't work when washed, even at 40. I know as I put His Lordships through the machine, and have had to replace with the above model. I haven't tested this ones waterproofness yet though. Give me another couple of months...

Since I last posted I have carried out further experiments in this department and can confirm that a Samsung D500 will survive immersion in either tea or chicken and mushroom soup. Also the rinsing require to remove said soup from the internal workings. The display was never the same again but the phone bit still worked. How cool is that. I now have a new phone (my sister is using my old one still) and I plan to keep it firmly in my pocket - unless my pocket is in the washing machine.

I have experimented with my nokia (forgot the model) with the washing machine at high speed. Still good! It exists today, except I'm using another one tehee...Good ol' phones....
