Maybe you two should start a thread somewhere in which you share your favourite 'psalms', or something..?
Now then. Psalms.

23 is a good one. I know you're both young, and come from a time after Irish jokes were PC'd out of existence, but surely you know Psalm 23.

Of course! How could I not?
A Psalm by David.
The Lord Is My Shepherd
23The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want. 2 He maketh me to lie down in green [1] pastures: he leadeth me beside the still waters. 3 He restoreth my soul: he leadeth me in the paths of righteousness for his name's sake. 4 Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil: for thou art with me; thy rod and thy staff they comfort me. 5 Thou preparest a table before me in the presence of mine enemies: thou anointest [2] my head with oil; my cup runneth over. 6 Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life: and I will dwell in the house of the Lord for ever. [3]
Damn. I'm going to have that song in my head all night now.

Ever watched Vicar of Dibley?
Opal

According to Wikipedia: a psalm can be used to mean any religious chant or poem of praise
What can I say, I'm not a religious person - had to look it up. :o So now I know what it is I can get a-thinking...
And yes to Vicar of Dibley - used to watch it loads til I went to uni and got cut off from my TV. :(
Why?

It's the theme tune to that. You know, before Dawn says the joke
Oh! That's just reminded me of a joke I found really funny at the end of a Vicar of Dibley episode....

I've just had a flashback! To major assemblies at school, 45 years ago!
Our School song was based upon the first two verses of psalm 127 'Except The Lord Build The House".
I also seem to remember the learning of a psalm being used as a punishment ...everybody chose psalm 117, the shortest, with only 2 verses!
Thanks girls, I really needed that reminder of the passage of the years!

A religious chant of praise...
One - nil, one - nil, one - nil.

Ok, my creative mind has hidden from me. I've been listening to the radio all day and I think my worshipful song of the day has to be Time Of Your Life by Green Day - a song played suprisingly often! (If MFJ can have football chants as religious songs, I think I'm justified with Green Day :D )
Anyone else got any "religious chants of praise"? :p
Harriet

Ok so we shall appoint 'Time of Your Life' as our official psalm of the day ;)
'Tis oh so religious and chanty.

How about 'Psalm 41'? That's a sort of a 'nu-metal' one...

What about Psalm 1? As in "Psalm 1 Saved My Life Tonight." Crumbs, these Dark Tower links pop up all over the place, don't they?

As I've had How Soon Is Now? By The Smiths running around in my head all day I'm going to have to christen that as todays psalm! Again, tis oh so religious and chanty. Especially as it has the whole scary guitar thing every now and again that always makes me jump. Would fit right in at a church.

Thats a song I've never heard.... Actually as far as I'm aware I've never heard anything by the Smiths. Might have to have a hunt around and see if I can find anything by them!
And as its now just about today, I think I'll choose American Pie by Don Maclean as my psalm for the day. Tis very long (as churchy songs always seem to be) and worships the wonderfulness of music in general. I believe it was written as a tribute to Buddy Holly, although I could be completely wrong there! Anyway, I've heard a few times today and tis a song I like a lot although not too religious and chanty... All the same I'm putting it on here! :p

Well - apologies if wrong, but I'm guessing the '1984' in your handle is your birth year? Which was also The Smiths' biggest year...
Opal
26th March 2005, 01:21 PM
It is indeed the year I was born... And now I'm getting curious about them so I think I'm going to have to go and find something by them so I know who you're talking about! :p
