This is about what you saved your pocket money up for, so although I played my folks' copy of Simon and Garfunkel "Songs from the Graduate" more or less through to the other side it doesn't count.

For me, it was The Boomtown Rats "I Don't Like Mondays" - a sentiment that is as true in my life today as it was in 1979.

I love that song and I'm quite jealous that you have such a cool first-record-bought.

Mine was Kajagoogoo - Too Shy...

Which funnily enough just about sums me up :o

First LP was probably in early '70's, and it was one of those "Top of the Pops" LP's that didn't feature the original artists, but someone trying to copy them. All I remember was it had Daniel by somone pretending to be Elton John on it.

First proper LP was I think Parallel Lines by Blondie

That's one of the first songs I ever remember hearing.

Sadly, the first record I bought was Phil Collins Another day in Paradise.

The first cd I bought was Now Music 16.

I actually don't know, which is shameful as it was probably only about 8 years ago.

I'm thinking maybe the Princess Diana Candle in the Wind?

Radio 2 have just played the first record I ever had bought for me - it was Last Train To Clarksville by The Monkees. The first record I ever bought with my own money (ill-gotten gains from the penny arcade at a fair in Wallingford) was Come Softly To Me By The New Seekers.

Perhaps this one was lost in the crash.

First single - Barbados by Typically Tropical. From Woolworths for 90p. I must have been six or seven and really excited to be getting my own record :D
First LP - I think it was The Works by Queen
First CD - I bought five the day I got my CD player (summer 1986), I can't remember exactly what they were but three were by Tangerine Dream, I suspect Ricochet, Hyperborea and Tangram, one was by Marillion, probably Script and I'm at a loss about the fifth.
First CD single - Tonight, Tonight, Tonight by Genesis

I have a shocking memory for these things, but I'll try my bestest.

First single - Phil Collins, You Can't Hurry Love.
First LP - Superhits 83 - it had the Jo-Boxer's Boxerbeat on it and I loved that song.
First CD - My first paypacket bought my first CD player and as I belatedly realized I had no CDs at home, I had to go to the nearest record shop, lugging my huge stereo about with me and grab the first that came to my purpling fingers...Michael Jackson's Dangerous. I hated it.
First CD single - Can't remember...I have a feeling it was The Beloved...

A Voice In The Wilderness (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nlumIElHM-8) - Cliff Richard :flirt: Oh Meg, were you a fan too. ;) I certainly had that one, and almost every vinyl album he ever made, including some that were only available abroad.

Can't honestly remember my first 48, but it could have been Poetry in Motion I think that was Johnny Tillotson.

My first LP was definitely Cliff though.

Oh yes, besotted
;)Me too. I never met him, but he lived near us around the time he was becoming famous. In fact one of my brothers used to go to the same local pub where he and his group played, before they went up to the 2Is in London and got discovered. My brother played guitar in another group and he and Cliff has several discussions on guitar playing, and probably other things. After Cliff became famous, I used to walk past his mum's house to see if he was there. Sadly they moved to posher parts fairly quickly so that didn't last long.

I've been to many of his concerts over the years. In the early days I used to scream all the way through. :o How stupid was that. I never heard a word he sang. How good it was to be young, eh!

Hi all,
The first single was '20th Century Boy', T.Rex, and the first LP was Tanx by the same outfit.

Mostly classical music these days, as a consequence of getting into Yes in around 1973. Consequently my first classical LP was Stravinsky's Firebird Ballet suite in 1974, 'cos they opened their concerts with the finale from that piece.

The first single I got was with a record token I won in a talent contest, lol. I used it to buy "Beg, Steal or Borrow" by the New Seekers.

My first album was a bit more respectable, I think. I bought the red Beatles album. Then I saved up to buy the blue one, and the Love Songs double album. It's quite rare, I think. Mine is still in good working order, but the sleeve is falling to bits!
