This was an enjoyable read with a jokey style that reminds me of a lot of football fans I've chatted to. It is genuinely funny, but in the end I'm left wondering what the point was to the book.

It's about a Sunday League team and their efforts to stay in the league as they keep losing. It's supposed to be a memoir and I assume true, but I did feel that he must have used a bit of poetic licence in places, such as when they invite friends and relations to an important match.

The writing is good and the dialogue, events and colourful characters make for an entertaining read - although the actual football sequences are probably the least engaging bits - but in the end you wonder if the story is just a loose way of being able to tell a few anecdotes about a group of friends whose life revolves around the weekly match...and there's nothing really wrong with that I suppose.
