If any policemen watched this how they must have laughed! Fancy good actors being wasted on the tired theme of old cop and new cop, but surprise surprise - new cop might just be cracking it with the help of a Jack the Ripper tourist guidebook. Oh, my!

Yes, sad to say I thought exactly the same. I'd been looking forward to this since it was a strong line-up of acting talent, but it should have been called Hackney...

The several-page article in the Radio Times made it sound quite interesting, and I quite enjoy 'Ripper' theories, so am looking forward to seeing what this treatment does with it. My critical faculties are pretty dormant when it comes to the 9pm crime slot, so I wasn't at all disappointed in what was a basic 'setting-up' episode.

Now we know who is who and what the murderer is up to I look forward to seeing how the investigation progresses, and to spotting 'Ripper' connections as they crop up. That is if I recognise them - it is some time since I last read up on the details. I quite like the idea of a 'Ripperologist" being used to point out to the similarities to the police, after all, they are obsessed with the case and know all the tiny details.

Of course, once again I am a little confused by the camera work, as my eyesight is no better nor my TV any bigger than when I was struggling to follow Heroes

I must admit that 'Ripper' theories have interested me too over the years so it might keep me watching despite what I've written.
