So I have finally reached the end, sob sob, and have to say goodbye to Jesse, Tulip, Cassidy, Starr, Featherstone, DuBlanc, Saint, and let's not forget The Almighty.

Jesse heads to the Alamo to end things with Cassidy and God. Starr, overrides The Grail's aims (in protecting God's bloodline and persuading Jesse to work with them), he has a more salient purpose, getting revenge on Jesse. By now Starr has one leg, one eye, his head looks like the top of a penis - which is just as well because he is missing his own, and is hellbent on killing Jesse. However, Jesse has a plan that will, bizarrely, allow Starr to get what he wants. Finally, Jesse and the Saint of Killers, team up to tag team God.

The end was always going to be disappointing, not least because it is the end afterall. Plus, how can Ennis et al possibly fufill every reader's expectations for a climactic finale? But I wasn't disappointed - this is a satisfactory end to the series and I was happy to see most character's fates tied up. I am just sad that there's no more. But there's always re-reading. And Preacher: Dead or Alive - the collection of Glen Fabry's plates. I could easily wallow in that for some time.

Well, dab those eyes and take at least a few crumbs of comfort... (http://www.sfx.co.uk/page/sfx?entry=preacher_set_for_the_big)

Personally I'm not that keen on Mendes, but I can imagine some breathtaking shot of the Nevada desert right before a nuclear warhead drops on it....

Aronofsky directing Robocop though?? This I must investigate.

Maybe he will sprinkle shrapnel around a semi-naked Tulip?

From imdb.com -

Director Sam Mendes (http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0005222/) is desperate to turn cult comic book Preacher (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1316546/) into a movie - if only he could find the perfect script.

The American Beauty (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0169547/) filmmaker was rumoured to be working on bringing the graphic novel to the big screen, but he admits the project is, for now, just a dream.

He tells Empireonline.com, "I'd love to make Preacher (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1316546/). But there's no script.

"This is a typical (industry paper) Variety announcement. 'Mendes to direct Preacher' - I wish! Basically they should have written, 'Mendes in development with Preacher (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1316546/)'. What I'm doing is, I've gotta find a script. I've just got to get it written."

But Mendes insists he is working hard to turn it into a reality because he's a huge fan of the series, about rebellious preacher Jesse Custer who embarks on a quest to find God and hold him accountable for crimes against humanity."

He adds, "It's brilliant, it's an incredible twisted vision. There's so much of it you couldn't possibly fit it all into one movie. It's just about what you keep and what you leave out, and how you structure the story.

"But just to have that toy set again, being able to paint on a big canvas and to say, 'I am gonna do crazy crane shots and massive action sequences again because I want to,' it's exciting."

Interesting stuff Hazel. It sparks a controversial question though - what would you leave out of the Preacher movie(s)? Being a dedicated fan boy I struggle with this. The sexual investigators? Jesus de Sade? hmm.

Back to the last book(s) in the series.

I read the last 4 or 5 books of the series over the Christmas / New Year period. Some good ones, some slightly below par, but overall an excellent series.
