Warhammer 40000 novels

I have just started getting into the Warhammer 40k universe. I'm currently reading Warrior Brood by C.S. Goto. The books have a certain sci-fi/military feel that I have never seen before.

I've joined in with a game, but not read any of the books. Which novel do you reckon would be a good one to start with?
