Lovesreading, I've moved your thread into Announcements and Tips, which is where technical questions generally go.

As far as avatars are concerned, you can either go to an avatar site which contains a number of them to choose from, such as here (http://www.avatarity.com/) or here (http://avatars.jurko.net/), although you should note that we don't usually like moving avatars since they tend to be a distraction when you're reading posts.

Alternatively, just find a picture you like and which you think would look good in the smaller size then reduce it to fit the specified dimensions. For that you could use the avatar sizer program that can be downloaded from here (http://www.jql.co.uk/avatarsizer.htm). I've downloaded and used that program myself and it's been fine! Just make sure you note the size restrictions specified on your profile page under avatars.

Mostly it's fine. If there are clear copyright issues it will be stated somewhere on the page. Flickr images are generally protected and can't be easily copied so I gave up with them long ago. Just go for it.

I went to my profile page, under Edit Avatar. All it says is that I don't have one. And there is a box that says "Do not use avatar". I cannot unclick that box. So is the answer: NO avatars?

No, avatars are available to subscribers. You can see the full explanation here (http://www.bookgrouponline.com/forum/showthread.html?t=1880).

Welcome to the group, Iffy. Why not tell us a bit more about yourself and your reading tastes in the Please Introduce Yourself (http://www.bookgrouponline.com/forum/showthread.html?t=727) thread?
