Alan Coren died this morning (http://uk.reuters.com/article/topNews/idUKL1927682420071019).
I for one will miss his wit on some of my favourite Radio4 programmes

Yes, I was very sad to hear of that. Coren was at the heart of The News Quiz and it's not going to be the same without him. He had all the sharp wit of the younger guns on the comedy scene with a warmth that always endeared him.

An extremely sad loss indeed.

I never much liked his writing (why that obsession with Cricklewood?) but he wasn't that bad as a radio guy. It's "too soon" but didn't he have a fit daughter?

And yes she is.

Come on tagesmann, once more with feeling.

once more with feeling.

Which is the name of her book. (http://www.amazon.co.uk/Once-More-Feeling-Tried-Greatest/dp/1841154377/ref=pd_bbs_sr_1/026-7618324-4002013?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1192807113&sr=8-1) And I agree with tagesmann.

As a dedicated "News Quiz" listener, I am sorry to hear of his passing. I did once go to a recording of an edition of the show on which he appeared. I remember he chain smoked throughout, not something he'd be permitted to do these days.

His son's not bad either.

Seriously though, he'll be missed in our house.
