BBC News hasthis article (http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/entertainment/6992736.stm) about a TV show that was turned down by the American TV networks and is now going to be shown on MySpace.

Imight give it a go, but not via MySpaceTV, but via their website.

You wonder how much this sort of thing is going to take off. Sci-fi (perhaps unsurprisingly) has made quite some inroads in terms of using the web as a true alternative broadcast medium to TV. Most often this has been in promotional spin-offs, such as brief webisodes created for Battlestar Galactica, as well as for resurrections, such as new online stories from the Farscape universe. Perhaps the most ambitious has been a subscription series called Sanctuary starring Amanda Tapping from Stargate SG1. It boasts high quality production values and you can't see it anywhere else.

If you're curious (and I haven't subscribed) the site is here (http://www.sanctuaryforall.com/home.php).

I have been watching Sanctuary. Very good production values but a bit of a chaotic approach to the story line, not aided by the short episodic structure. I'm sticking with it for now but not sure I'd recommend it.

That's interesting, Atom. I watched a trailer and it looked reasonable, but when the main site was up and running I tried to load some more sample material and even though I'm on broadband with reasonable speed it took ages. Frankly I've got so much to catch up with anyway that to spend out to watch even more seemed silly, so I feel slightly vindicated by your comments!

I havent't tried either of these but have heard good things about the former.

Star Trek Hidden Frontier (http://www.hiddenfrontier.org/) is now up to Season 7. It s set after the Dominion War featured in Star Trek: Deep Space Nine.

Star Trek New Voyages. (http://www.startreknewvoyages.com/) The five year mission continues.

I've always meant to look into those a bit more, TM, but have been the tiniest bit wary of fanisodes. Especially given the very particular sort of fan that the truly dedicated Trekkie is (I'm barely worthy to kiss their tricorders...). I'll give these a proper look-in over the weekend. Ta.

Interestingly, Sanctuary is now going to become a fully-fledged TV show. They're re-making it rather than simply show the webisodes but perhaps this will be a phenomenon that will gain strength: the web as a proving ground for ideas.

Good for them, this is quite possibly the wave of the future anyway!

How are they going to find sponsors?
