I didn't make myself clear. I am reading it now and think it is an amazingly clever abd interesting book. I just wish someone else had read it and I could get their opinion.

I really enjoyed The Time of Our Singing but have lent it to people who didn't like it so hesitate to recommend it. The structure is complex and sometimes laboured but the subject matters of music and racism - of all kinds - is written about with great subtlety and knowledge. I feel it is a very sincere and enlightening book and gave me new insights. The overall theme running through it is of music - and the development of the taste of two musicians. This makes it all sound very pompous and it isn't - go on - read it!
