Mrs RR's car battery has gone flat so we had to use jump leads from mine to get it started this morning.
I stayed in with No3 child whilst the others went out to buy new bikes for G & L, from accumulated pocket money.
They got back with after being out for a couple of hours and as they came in asked me why my car was running, was I just shooting off somewhere?
Ermm, no I wasn't actually.... :o :o

Another one from a few years ago that still gets brought up from time to time...
I was leaving home one morning, and had to put various files, boxes etc. from clients in my car to take back to my office.
A couple of days later I was looking for a file but couldn't find it - I just dismissed it thinking I must have left it at home or at the client's office. Didn't think any more about it.
Then a couple of days later I took a call from the client asking me if I'd lost my file with his management accounts, tax papers and other confidential financial information in it... I assumed I'd left it at his office so was delighted to say, "well, yes, not lost as such, but I did realise I'd left it at your place last week..."
He pointed out to me that actually he had just taken a call from someone who had picked up the file in the gutter of a road that was actually a couple of roads away from my house. The "good Samaritan" had looked inside the file, found my client's phone number inside the file on a letterhead and had called to let him know he had found it. How the hell could that have happened?
Recounting my movements I finally realised that on the morning I was packing my car I had put the file on the roof of my car and had driven off, hence it had finally slid off a couple of streets away!
Fortunately the client was quite understanding but how embarrassing is that? :o
I actually repeated the trick with my mobile phone a few months later, then my wallet a little while later.
Fortunately I do seem to have broken the habit now.

I finally realised that on the morning I was packing my car I had put the file on the roof of my car and had driven off.I did this once, whilst unlocking my car in a multi-storey carpark. Luckily, it was only a loaf of bread, but I was still annoyed with myself.

My husband did something similar - he was given a model of the Starship Enterprise as a leaving present from work once and left it on the roof of the car. It flew amazingly well, took us ages to find it! My Dad did the same with his wallet and passport in a Gibraltar multi-storey and only realised when they tried to cross back over to Spain. Amazingly, it was still there when they went back.

I also did this with my purse a while ago. Sometime later that same day I did the very same with a bunch of flowers I had bought for myself. The flowers I never saw again but that afternoon I had a knock on my front door and there stood an elderly couple who apparently were behind me when I left the petrol station - they said it looked like someone had thrown the purse out of the window. They stopped, had a look inside and saw my address. It was incredibly nice of them to come and find me so they could return it to me. Restores faith in human nature.
A few weeks ago I spent ages looking for my car keys, so long in fact I ended up very late for my meeting and had to use my spare car key instead. My OH, whilst I was out, decided to make him self something to eat and found my keys in the freezer!
I say I have my mind on lots of other things, he says I'm just scatty
