BOOK MOOCH
Avid readers can put their own used books to good use by swapping them with others in exchange for books they want to read. Book Mooch is a free, online community of readers from around the world that uses a simple points system to help people trade tomes, and find worthy homes for their old books. The Web site has plenty of features, including an option to use accumulated points to help charities, as well as a tool to create a personal "wish list" of books.

I haven't tried them out, this information came in the monthly newsletter from Zen (my ISP)

A search of a few random titles from my wish list came up blank so I think this site may be in its early stages. I'm always nervous of international sites for book exchanging, maybe the postage charges are frightening me off!

Exactly my thoughts Jen. Sometimes you can get a book through Amazon or even at the local bookstore for less than it might cost to post to say, New Zealand.

I've had a look at the site, and like Jen, found that the searches I tried didn't often turn up the required book.

There is an option to swap only in certain areas, which avoids the overseas postage problem, but reduces book choice even further. They recommend using the cheapest postal rate, even though it is the slowest.

It's not a sensible option for me, with 5 local charity shops all having books to sell at roughly the cost postage would be if I used a 'swapping' site, but not everybody is so well provided.
