Does anyone admit to having read this? I have to admit I have, but purely for research purposes during my foray into the paranormal (ammunition for countless arguments in the pub). Having made the acquaintance of Derek on several occasions, I found him a very charming fella, however his alter-ego Masumai (Sam) made rather a lot of gaffs, and eventually deserted him during the Most Haunted series. Exposure doesn't seem to have affected his book sales though, his latest title is Derek Acorah: Extreme Psychic

DEREK ACORAH: EXTREME PSYCHIC by Derek Acorah

From possession by demons, violent spirits that have thrown him bodily across the room and encounters with dead serial killers, to ghosts that have made him fear for his very life, here is a collection of shocking experiences that have made Derek stare into the darkest places of the spirit world.

Warning: this is not for the faint-hearted. Read it, if you dare.

It amazes that this kind of hocum gets airtime, never mind publishing deals.

I agree Hazel. I would never dream of reading this, nor of watching any of his TV shows. He's just a big fraud to my mind, and I struggle to see why he's so popular...

If you have ever watched him he does come up with some surprising stuff. However, its how you prove he hasn't heard it from another source... I think his 'flamboyance' doesn't help matters at all and to be honest, as a fan to an extent of most haunted, I began to distrust him in the end.

The new guy on most haunted David Wells is far more down to earth and believable.

I do believe there are some odd goings on in the world and that some of this apears on this kind of show. Though I do also think they are too quick to jump on every instance as 'supernatural'.

Acorah's fakery has been pretty universally exposed by folk such as James Randi (http://www.randi.org/jr/200511/111105derek.html#i1). The question is why people, who either do know or are wilfully blind to the fact that he's a fraud, still believe him.

Derren Brown, another psychic debunker, writes about a meeting with him and the subsequent media kerfuffle in his recent book Tricks of the Mind (http://theasylum.wordpress.com/2007/06/03/derren-brown-tricks-of-the-mind/). Lovely pouting Myleene Klass doesn't come out of it well.

An opinion on Acorah has very little do with whether or not you believe in the 'supernatural'. The man is a complete fraudster, and has made money out of nothing. Allowing him to continue his goings on is tantamount to encouraging and supporting fraud.

Well the paying public who crowd his shows out are the reason he still continues his goings on. He does seem to appeal to the same people that enjoy the misery lit stuff. Also he comes across as extremely charming and believable to vulnerable people who are trying to make sense of their bereavements.

That is exactly why he should be stopped. He is taking advantage of people at a vulnerable time.
