My Friend Jack

I read this for the first time in the late 70s. I can't put my finger on it, but it doesn't seem the same now I've tried re-reading it.

I know what you mean, Jack. Most of it still resonates with me, 16 years after I last read it.
I can still recall, word for word, a couple of the lines in it:
"Remember, deaf people may not hear your car approaching"
and, for me, the best piece of advice I have ever been given:
"Always give way to trains."
